Autodesk answers AI anxiety with a hymn to human makers
The design software company's new Giant Spoon campaign opens on a newborn, calls itself a user manual for planet Earth, and tells an AI-rattled audience to make what matters.

Autodesk, Giant Spoon, 2026.
Autodesk, which sells the software architects and engineers use to design things, has launched a campaign about the people doing the designing. “The World Is Yours for the Making” broke on 9 September during the NFL’s opening game, made by the agency Giant Spoon and directed by Salomon Ligthelm.
The sixty second film opens on a newborn and calls itself a user manual for planet Earth. From there it is a montage of making: an architect designs a stadium and later sits in it as a fan, a father turns his daughter’s teddy bear into an animation. It closes on the instruction “Make what matters”. The description on Autodesk’s own upload adds a line the film could have kept: every generation inherits the world unfinished.
The timing is not subtle. Adweek, which reported the launch, cites Bentley University and Gallup research finding 39 per cent of Americans believe artificial intelligence does more harm than good. Autodesk’s customers are exactly the professionals being told their work is next. Chief marketing officer Dara Treseder’s answer, in her comments to Adweek, is that “technology is for people”, and that what Autodesk wants to compound is human ingenuity rather than replace it.
It is a swerve for a marketer who usually goes for laughs. Under Treseder the company cast Tony Hale as a God impressed by human designers in Let There Be Anything, and ran a fake tribute documentary to “Otto Desc” during the 2023 Oscars. The new film is played entirely straight, and it runs on television in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles alongside connected TV and social.
The move itself is the oldest one in technology advertising: when the machines frighten people, sell the humans. Apple “1984” did it against the mainframe, and every AI-era software brand is now reaching for the same register. The difference is that Autodesk has a legitimate claim to it, because nobody buys design software to have designed less. Where the line sits between tool and replacement is the question the industry keeps asking itself, and a brand whose customers are the anxious party cannot afford to get it wrong.
